It’s usually considered safe to wash your hair 24 hours after you have cataract surgery. However, you should keep your eyes closed and avoid getting any water or shampoo in your eye, and, it’s advised that you use a mild or baby shampoo. You should also avoid rubbing your eye.
If you do get anything in your eye, whether it’s shampoo or any other foreign body, it can impede the healing process and potentially cause infection and other post-operative complications.
You should also avoid strenuous activity for around 4 weeks after you’ve had cataract surgery. So, sports, heavy lifting and running should all be avoided until you’re advised by your doctor that you can start again. It’s usually OK to resume playing golf around 2 weeks after your cataract surgery is completed, as really, it’s just a long walk with an occasional swing of the arms.
